You've Got to Be Kitten Me! - CATCON? |
More Than 150 Vendors and Cat-Themed Treasures Filled the Pasadena Convention Center This Past Weekend |

Thousands of cat lovers gathered in Pasadena this weekend for CATCON, where shopping, art, entertainment, and a shared affection for four-legged companions gave attendees plenty to explore.
Cat ladies and cat dads alike had a place in the crowd. Whether they came looking for something for their favorite pal or a little something for themselves, the convention offered more than one way to celebrate life with cats.
Something for the cat, something for the human
Over a hundred and fifty vendors participated, with offerings ranging from cat-themed artwork and accessories to toys, treats, and furniture. Some goods were meant for paws and whiskers. Others were clearly aimed at the people who happily arrange their lives around them.
For shoppers, the appeal was browsing so many cat-centered businesses in one place. A practical purchase could share space on the shopping list with a knickknack that needed no justification beyond, “It has a cat on it.”
Some items were available online rather than at the booth.
More than a shopping trip
The CATCON also offered workshops, special guest appearances, a cat art show, and a silent disco, giving visitors reasons to look beyond the merchandise.
Those activities added another side to the weekend. CATCON was not just a place to buy things. It brought together people whose interest in cats stretches into art, entertainment, and learning more about caring for them.
A quieter place for adoption
Prospective adopters stood in a long line, but the cats were not out on display across the convention floor. On this visit, the crowds were easy to spot. The cats themselves were not.
For someone expecting to see plenty of felines while walking through the event, that was a disappointment. Still, the adoption area was only one part of a much larger gathering, with vendors and programming occupying much of the attention.
Taking a little cat enthusiasm home
CATCON gave cat lovers a weekend built around something they already enjoy, with room to browse, discover, and share that enthusiasm with others.
For the cats waiting at home, the important question may have been simpler: did their human bring back a new toy, a treat, or at least a perfectly good bag to sit in?
